Sculpting the Mumakil

This a pic by pic breakdown of how I created my own scratch built war mumak for lotr sbg, bear in mind this is my second mumak, and i got all my measurements from the first one so here goes...

The Materials:
4 sticks(aprox. 2cm thick, 8to10cm long)
a block of pine, a fair bit of high density ply-wood, a twig(for the tail), a bamboo sushi board, a cork, some toothpicks, a full pack of standard milliput and some green stuff.

So i started by shaping the block of wood to the correct dimensions then i glue all the pieces together.
Bellow you can see the rag tag armature of the creature, at this point i had already sculpted most of one leg, but i remembered to take pics from there on.

And here's from the other side so you can see the leg joint on the left posterior limb.

and now on with the sculpting....

3 out of 4

some time later...
work on the face starts, the face is the top of a champagne cork with about 11 toothpicks as armatures for the tusks and trunk.

here's the other olliphunt for comparison

here we have some more neck detail and a better view of the head in progress...

and for giggles my finished first mumak with a full war band of Mahud with blowpipes

you may have by now noticed i am not going to make the side panniers, the reason is simple they annoyed me enough on the model i bought. anyway on with the head

I have always loved the brutality (and rules for that matter) of tusk weapons as such I'll gave her some, I also added the ropes and most of the facial detail at this point.

The busy Haradrim got working on the howdah at this point giving it some cloth

Some time later in Her full Glory.

And lets paint her up why not...

And here they both are together.

Oh by the way this project took me a bout a month to complete.
